I think you need to do, use QEdit to open your source file, 'set
language COBX' with in your source code file and then save it again.
Then try to compile. The Cobol compiler is looking for line number at
the start of each line while qedit by default will put the line numbers
at the end of the line.

If I remember correctly they have to be plain text files. The compiler
does not know how to read Qedit format files.
There may have been a way with in the past, but never having used it my
recollection is very fuzzy.
