Let me predict the response:

* If it's that important to you than you should be part of the
* team that keeps the mpe specific parts current and you can help
* do all the testing to verify the latest builds work correctly.

IOW - the GNU folks don't owe anyone anything - unless you are going
to be paying someone to be an engineer working on the project.

And you should be really glad that somelike like Mark is willing to
keep the compiler revs working on MPE. I think this community owes him
and everyone else who has worked on the compiler port and the other tools
a huge amount of gratitude for all the basically free, volunteer, hard
work that has been applied in this arena.

Now, if you tell me that you are paying Mark and/or Allegro an annual
support
and/or development fee for using these fine tools then please accept my
apology for being slightly grumpy and testy this afternoon :-)
