It was a tongue-in-cheek observation. I'm sure other places have similar events and certainly with the spread of Amazon and other on-line retailers operating worldwide, this quaint shopping frenzy custom had to spread.

Years back retailers started opening their doors for business earlier than usual and that slowly wound its way back to midnight. One of my customers is a large electronics and appliances retailer and they do an unbelievable amount of business on Black Friday. Along with everyone else they started to encroach earlier than midnight and now it starts at 6:00PM on Thanksgiving Day. I think that's rather sad as Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and was a great reason to have everything shutdown and for people to stay home or with friends. That's in the past now.

On television, I see that Black Friday has started on Monday for a lot of stores and Amazon and other etailers have been bombarding me with early BF stuff.

Gosh, nothing says Happy Thanksgiving like a Mattress Mac ad for Black Friday sales right now at his store. (Houstonians will catch the reference.)

Unfortunately not! and its getting longer

The battle between retailers to boost sales on Black Friday has turned the shopping sensation named after a single day into a week-long marathon.

Although*the American import officially kicks off at most participating British retailers on Friday morning <http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/retailandconsumer/11244515/Where-to-find-the-best-Black-Friday-deals.html>*,
lasting at some until close of play next Monday, Amazon said it would start cutting prices at 8am on Monday morning.

Sorry about the wrap
