Lars has graciously provided a small filter which can be used to determine
what the various filename mapping schemes used by Samba/iX will do
to your HP 3000 stored files. This makes it very convenient to see what
files you may wish to "tweak" prior to moving to Samba/iX 7j (if you
are so inclined). Both the C source code as well as the compiled
executable are included in the compress tarfile.
The filter is now available in the Download Area of the Sambaix.com
web site ( http://www.sambaix.com ) under the name "mapdiffs.tar.Z".
Some notes provided to me by Lars are pasted below and the source
code is heavily documented.

Let me once again say that downloading and installing Samba/iX 7j
is not to be undertaken lightly. If you need the enhanced filename
mappings (for example, if you are working with JAVA on the HP 3000
via Samba), then this version will definitely help you, but at the expense
of not being compatible with current and possibly future versions of
Samba/iX delivered from HP.

Notes from Lars follows:

It provides four different types of test (7cPC, 7jPC, 7c7j, 7j7c) which
basically map filenames from-to and report if the results are not the
same. The 7cPC and 7jPC tests shows filenames that differ on 3k
and PC side (using either the 7c or 7j mapping rules). The 7c7j and
7j7c test checks between the two different mapping modes; it maps
the host side name to the PC side name and back (using the other
mapping scheme).

Example (in shell): find / -type d | mapdiffs 7c7j

This should show all HP 3000 directory names that would need to
be adjusted because the 7j mapping does not have the same result
as the (current) 7c mapping (for example ab_24_xy versus ab$xy)
