According to Okidata:

Okidata has been using superior Digital LED technology in
page printers (commonly called laser printers) for many years.

See why their competitors are now changing to this leading
    technology.

http://www.compudirect.net/oki/led_versus_laser.htm has some
impressive details:

Superior print quality through smaller dot size.

At 1200dpi, a theoretical ideal dot size would be calculated
    as 25.4mm (1 inch) divided by 1200 = 20.4 mm (20.4 micrometers).

Laser heads can produce dot sizes of 60 micrometers whereas
Oki Digital LED technology can produce dots as small as 34
    micrometers.

The following three images show some 2 point text printed with
laser and Digital LED technologies (2 Point text is about
    0.7 millimeters tall!)

Not surprisingly, the Okidata folks wisely support HP's PCL:

I am glad my HP "Gypsy" (travel companion) LaserJet 2100TN died,
because a Google search on "smallest PCL printer" yielded the
information that I now share with you. I didn't even know that
there was a difference between "laser" and "LED" printing
technologies.

I had just faithfully bought HP LaserJet printers (of all
sizes) for decades. Little did I know that I was buying
"legacy" technology! As an unexpected (but highly enjoyable
bonus, given the current economic climate), Okidata's price
is much more appealing than HP's "High Price". Love is (was)
blind :-)

Living and learning, and loving it every day,
