The site listed below contains information regarding ThinkPad passwords
and provides links to detailed IBM documentation explaining how to
remove a Power-on Password from specific ThinkPad Models.

After removing a Power-on password, your computer may display error
codes 161 (dead battery) and 163 (date and time are not set; clock not
updated). These errors will appear because your date and time settings
have been set to the computer's default and must be reset to the
original. You can change them by entering the BIOS at startup (press
and hold F1 when turning on the computer).

Please note that servicing any hardware components may void any or all
manufacturer warranties.

If you have attempted to clear a Power-on password and you are still
prompted with a password at start-up or upon entering the BIOS
settings, you most likely have a Supervisor password set.

If the supervisor password is unknown, there is no way, as a user, you
can remove it.  When this password is set, the Hard Disk password is
also automatically set.  User access to both the BIOS settings and the
HDD data, without the password, is impossible.  However, proprietary
software and hardware has been developed to remove ThinkPad passwords
with the option of full HDD data recovery, without having to replace
