What the discussion is missing is a realization that #1 is right,
and it *IMPLIES* #2.

I.e., most businesses are in business to make money.  Enlightened self
interest says that if they can make more by enabling their customers
to make money, then that's the best path to take.

Remember that phrase: enlightened self interest.
It is literally the key to everything, in business and personal life.
That said, it's amazing how many companies, and individuals, act against
their own enlightened self interest.
