Gilles demonstrates a situation where

rename x,x/lock fails (observing user is not file's creator)
but rename x,y succeeds

Jeff Vance responds:

Even so, shouldn't the results be the same for both attempts
(both or neither successful)?

Or are the rules still different because POSIX has no concept
of lockwords?
