Kinda ironic actually, the SAP/COMPAQ thing, and 'The New HP'. You see,
back in 1987 I had a contract at COMPAQ, and boy was I impressed. They
had one of the biggest HP3000 shops that I had ever seen. Sometime
during the early 90's they started thinking they shouldn't be running
COMPAQ on a competitors machine, meaning the HP3000. So either they were
still in the process of dumping the competitions machines, or maybe they
had just completed it, when they were bought by that competitor, (HP)
ironic I think.

Some of the guys at COMPAQ told me that they planned on being done with
the 3k and MANMAN by 1995. I worked a 1 year contract in 1997 at COMPAQ
doing Fortran and OMAR stuff., and SAP was everywhere (in theory only),
but still unable to print an invoice without OMAR. They still had to
resort the 3k to do any real business, actually all seven production
HP3000's where still in use, and going strong. Running COMPAQ using most
all of the ASK suite. In 1999 I heard that the COMPAQ implementation of
SAP was a complete bust, not working at all, except maybe sales. But
those are just rumors, after 97 I had no desire to go back to the
craziness of a big shop like COMPAQ, where the tail seems to be wagging
the dog..

IMHO, you gotta be nuts to move your applications from the stability of
the HP3000 to something like SAP, just nuts, oh, and have very deep
pockets.

Michael, don't you mean the "New HP"? :-)
