and I'm very interested in moving over one of our HP-IB
cards.

I know that the HP-IB card is not supported by HP on the
9x9KS system, but I found several postings on this list in
which people were able to make the HP-IB cards work on a
9x9KS system.

I would like to hear from those brave souls who tried to
connect an HP-IB card to their 9x9KS system. Please email
me a response to the following questions:>>

We have a 939/020 with an HP-IB card from a 950 running nicely.

  >> a) How long has it been running and which release of
        MPE/iX are you on?>>

We have had the card installed since June 1998, with no hiccups or problems
whatsoever. Started on MPE 5.5 pp3, now on pp4.

>> b) Which HP-IB peripherals are you running?>>

Running a 7980 Tape drive, and 2 line printers, a 2567B and a 2564C, all from
our old system. Reason is mostly availability: serial interface upgrades for
printers are hot items and at last check, 90-120 days out, if you are lucky. I
understand that this configuration is not supported, but I am willing to bite
said bullet. The tape drive is just sort of along for the ride - our other
7980XC was converted to SCSI.

Also, as far as the pp5 problem - we were told by the response center this
week to upgrade to pp5 - I had ordered the upgrade and was going to schedule
until the DBUTIL problem came out. Turns out there is a problem with INETD and
the 100base T card that HP was aware of and had fixed. We were getting flooded
at console with telnet problems. The message was "Could not initialize data in
path with TCP" . The fix is included in pp5. Anyway - the RC was nice enough
to put together a special patch tape for us to solve the INETD problem. Now I
see that they are talking about pp6 - hmmmm guess I'll wait and see on that
one too!
