Jeff Bandle, the fellow at CSY's Networking Lab who has enthusiastically
worked with me to put "advanced telnet" into MPE, sent me the following
privately a few days ago. I thought I'd share it here, breaking all of the
surly bounds of netiquette. Jeff wrote:

"I have 3 daughters in the same elementary school and yesterday my oldest
daughter brought home the pre-enrollment form for the next school year...she
got to bring it home since she is the oldest. This form is computer
generated and has all the information filled out...all my wife and I have to
do is check the names, address, phone, etc and send it in with a signature
to verify that my girls will be going to the same school next year.

"So, I was looking at this sheet and something struck me...my daughters
names, from youngest to oldest are Katherine Marie Bandle, Carolyn Patricia
Bandle and Lauren Elizabeth Bandle. On the sheet the girls names are
entered in table format, youngest to oldest with middle initials used for
middle names...so on the sheet, the computer printed out the following for
the names.

Katherine M Bandle
Carolyn P Bandle
Lauren E Bandle

"Note the big MPE staring at you. When I saw this, I just started to
laugh...my wife at first didn't get it, but when I explained it to her, she
commented that maybe I'm meant to work on MPE my whole career."

The death of the HP3000 has shocked and saddened us all, but can you imagine
the surprise that Jeff's wife and kids are going to face when he tells them
that they're going to need a new baby sister -- and that the kids have to
change all of their middle names now to Henrietta, Pauline, Uma, and
Xanthippe.

Even worse, can you imagine their displeasure when he tells them in just a
few years that they're going to have adopt two new baby sisters and change
their names again, a second time, this time to Leona, Ida, Nadine, Utica and
Xena.
