Oops, didn't check that.
However......We have a customer on the end of an ISN link, connected to a
Cisco 825 here, which then goes to our main switch. I was informed this
morning that there was a problem at the phone co exchange with this
connection, and it was being worked on. OK, sh!t happens, not really my
problem. There are several printers configured out on this link.
In the last 30 mins, they called to ask me to cycle the Cisco, to see if the
problem was resolved.....and within a couple of minutes, we were able to
complete ABORTIO on some problem printers, and a STARTSPOOL would work ok,
and we were printing again....
Could the set up of retries or poll interval or poll interval max , if set
too high, have tied up the cpu in looking for the unavailable printers?
We have seen that if we load the system badly, the first thing to suffer is
network printing - it basically just stops....
Thanks,
john

Sorry I didn't give the complete the picture.
We can ping all the devices, and reach them via a web browser without any
problems. No changes have been made to configs, or switches, or....to the
best of my knowledge. We can print to the nearest unit from windows via tcp
port.

The first thing I always do in such cases is the obvious and test whether or
not the printers are properly responding, first by pinging them and secondly
with a telnet inquiry. All JetDirect-connected HP printers respond to
telnet.
Here's the response from one of our HP Color printers:

If your network is malfunctioning or someone's put multiple devices on the
same address, this is the quickest way to find out.
