I also recall an interesting article on what data gets transferred. A
German company had a tool that intercepted the data stream before it
was encrypted for transmission. It was XML and, if I recall
correctly, there were some very interesting tags in the data stream.
It made me think at the time that I would do a phone activation even
if it was more painful. If I can find the link again, I will post it.
As for phone activation, one of my kids said he didn't get the option
for a modem activition (like my other son) so he had to do a phone
activition. Said it was automated and not too painful.
