I have 19 dedicated printers on dtcs. We have 4 hubs, and are using a
combination of 2934s and laserjets. I have one 2934 that causes me problems.
It is configured like the others, but it appears that certain spoolfiles cause
the spooling for that printer to stop. This occurs after that certain file has
printed, but the file doesn't disappear from the system. It goes back to a
ready state. When the spooler is restarted, the whole process happens again.
The only resolution I can find is to delete that pesky spoolfile, and then
restart the spooler. The profile is for type 22, no modem, initially spooled
and no nlio, 132 record width. In OVM, the baud is 9600, parity is none,
printer, modem none, ascii, port enabled, dedicated printer, 1 host, and
default destination is hp0996.mmm.com. The dtc is hd032.mmm.com. Basically,
all my printers hung off dtcs are configured like this, and this is the only
one that causes problems. This happens several times a week. We are
operatorless, so this means a longer wait to get the printer going again,
especially on weekends. My CE tells me that this just happens, and that's what
I've heard from other support sources.

I was just able to recreate the problem, so I can verify what I saw in the
console log file. I started the file printing, it got to the end of the file,
and the following was on the console:

1.The spooler could not complete output FILE O89889.OUT.HPSPOOL,Native Mode
Spooler message 9511
2.The file system reported a device error while outputting data. Native Mode
Spooler message 9540
3.Type manager; device is off-line (in fact, the printer was ONLINE) File
System message 6013
4.Printer storage manager; device is off-line (Printer
Storage Manager message 23)
 5.The device is off-line. Low Level I/O message 204
 6.-7.The messages 4 and 5 repeated
 8.Output Spooler, LDEV #239: Stopped.

Do you have any ideas as to what needs to be changed? The bad thing about this
one printer is that it prints customer orders and other pertinent reports. I
have given the user the capability to delete, restart, etc., but that doesn't
seem to be working that great. The printer itself is configured as recommended
in MVANIX0198 (Serial Printer Config. for MPE/iX 3/95).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
