I like it! If we can find someone to sketch a good B&W graphic, this could
be a winner.

Since the wall street journal doesn't usually (ever?) run pictures,
the graphic would be in good company and not have to compete with
a glossy color lipstick ad (or whatever.)

If I am going to kick in my $100, I want it clear that it was paid for
by users. It doesn't have to show names, but we need to make it real
clear that this is not an HP ad, nor a HP vendor ad exclusively, but by
seasoned professionals that CHOOSE this as their platform of choice.

Actually, I've changed my mind a bit in just the five minutes since I wrote
that. An owl mother and her chicks could easily be a dominant visual theme
if
the tag lines that were centered above the image said "Wisdom. Security.
Protection. Comfort.", in a rounded sans-serif bold font, with each word on
a
line by itself.

Perhaps the only other text would be just a very little text providing the
name of the HP3000, a URL, and a notice saying that this ad was paid for by
the users of the HP3000 themselves.

That would provide an absolutely standard advertisement, wholly
non-confrontational, and would express some real sense of pride.

Such an ad does not however preclude us letting each of the technology
editors of all of the various magazines that it will appear, who paid for
it,
and why.
