Here is an excerpt from an article describing Bill Gates' visit to the
UT CS department last week:

"Nationally, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that more
than 300,000 technology-related jobs remain unfilled for lack of
qualified workers."

And the link overall:

My question is 2 fold:

How on earth does the Labor Dept. come up with a staggering
number like 300,000 unfilled IT jobs?

What constitues a technology related job these days (just
about everything if you count the reqirements of having to know how to
use MS products?)?

I did a scan of .NET, COBOL, JAVA, and UNIX for one day's listing on the
3 big job web sites (that I'm aware of): CAREER BUILDER.COM, DICE.COM
and MONSTER.COM, and not even eliminating dupicates in the same WEB
pages (let alone duplicate entries across multiple WEB pages), I didn't
even come remotely close to 300,000 entries.

Me thinks 300,000, is, umm, a crock of dung?

Life is not a journey to the grave with the
intention of arriving safely in a pretty and
well preserved body, but rather to skid in
broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out,
and loudly proclaiming:

-- WOW!!! What a Ride!!!
