At least you were thinking positively at teleconference time!

I too was initially upset to hear a 'non-answer' from Harry Sterling
especially since "I thought" he said at HP World 96 that he would
have an answer for us during the teleconference. I would have
eagerly accepted a "yes we will port to 64 bits when we can't
adequately support our loyal customers with a 32 bit MPE" in
lieu of a "we'll keep listening and thinking about it" tact.
During my 175 mile drive home from where I viewed the teleconference
though (lots of think time), I can see the business logic in their
current approach. Outside of >4GB file sizes (which they committed
to anyway), the only other thing I can think of "real" benefit is the
increase in a flat memory address space which would help Allbase
and Oracle (would it really help Image that much? Alfredo?).
Are we possibly getting all worked up over nothing (or at least not much)
at this point? I'd much rather see my support dollars going to making
the Posix shell an environment that doesn't scare the h#ll out of both
MPE and Unix gurus alike! In other words, make it a REAL ASSET
and a solid selling point for the 3000.
