G... I forgot all of detail, but EBCDICIN and SUBSET parameter to start.

I have the Social Security Death Master File on 24 tape reels. These are
labeled tapes, EBCDIC format, record length 60, blocksize 27960.
I want to load this data onto one or more flat files on our 987. I'm
thinking that if I try to read these as labeled tapes, the system will
require me to read all 24 tapes in one run, which might take a long time.
Will a run that tries to FCOPY one reel at a time and append it to an
existing file work, given that the reels are labeled as part of a multi-reel
file?
I would appreciate any suggestions that anyone has on the best way to
approach this.
