Depends how much they need you :-)

Honestly depends on the type of contract too. Long-term (security), short
term, emergency support, etc.

For a long-term contract with a guaranteed level of hours per month, I start
at $50.00/hr. For the right type of work and a client willing to put up with
me working remotely out of my home, I would negotiate.

For spot rate, short term contracts I would ask at least $70.00/hr. If
travel is required, I start adding travel costs on top of that. If they
expect on call emergency support, I add more. Plus I would generally charge
a fee for each emergency response.

Not to say I actually get that right now :-( (Says Tim who has been doing
consumer rate PC support and web design lately).

These are all $Canadian rates (West Coast).

Those of you out there earning $100+/hr. may now complain about my
undercutting you. Let's be honest, the world is changing. Also to be honest
there is a price I pay for living in paradise.
