At IPROF the attendees saw a impressive demo of JAVA and the JVM running
on an HP3000. With Java you you get a GUI front-end to your HP3000, with
a choice of Windows, Motif, or Java look-and-feel. Mike Yawn, Gavin, and
others at CSY have brought some very exciting and useful technology to
the HP3000.

I agree 100% with Steve Cooper that probably the biggest thing holding down
the 3000 was lack of a GUI interface. Java solves that AND brings the 3000
up to par with other platforms in the market. Mike even mentioned that Java
1.2(?) would actually be released on the 3000 BEFORE the 9000!

One very strong feeling I left IRPOF with was that the 3000 is undergoing a
rebirth and renaissance - the next couple of years should be interesting.

P.S. Mike, can we get your slides posted on Jazz?
