This is just to add another voice/vote to those suffering from high upgrade
fees for Powerhouse.
We still have a HP3k Series70 running primarily COBOL/VPlus applications ,
but also some Powerhouse. We would have upgraded this machine to PA-Risc
long ago except we couldn't, and still can't, justify paying the 3rd party
software upgrade fee. There were plenty of economic reasons to justify the
hardware spend, but none for the software.
 
We have just recently phased out one of our HP3K Powerhouse applications and
replaced it with an off-the-shelf pc-lan package. We are now taking a
similar look at the remaining apps.
 
I'm not on a Powerhouse discussion group, but I'm wondering if these views
are being echoed there also, and if Cognos are listening do they care ?
 
In the rush to "Open Systems", the IT industry appears to have replaced the
old hardware vendors' chains with those from vendors of development
environments and rdbms' :-(
