Just for clarification neither the standalone DLT7000 C6374A nor the DLT4000
C3590A (these are the differential devices) are supported for BOOT. The same
holds true for the DLT7000 libraries.
The A3635A SE-SCSI DLT4000 does support boot.

I have found from our own testing that there is next to no speed advantage
doing an ISL>UPDATE or INSTALL from a DLT4000 over a DDS3 (using 125m media).

The problem with being unable to boot from non-125 meter media CREATED
in DDS3
drives is BTW jointly being investigated by my fellow colleagues in the
HP MPE/iX
OS and hardware expert centers (aka 'WTEC'). I can go so far and say
that it has
been succesfully duplicated (with customer provided media) on an HP
internal
system, and appears to be a timing problem with either IODC (IO
dependent code,
think of it as the boot support firmware in the system) or the device firmware.

Goetz 'can I post semi-official ?'
