The 918LX comes equipped with a spare full-height slot or 2 half-height slots.
Unless you are using one of those slots, as far as I know, there is no
reason why a full-height slot cannot be used to house a FW-SCSI card which
would accomodate your Seagate WC drives.
The difference between the 918LX and 918RX is that the RX offers another
spare pair of half-height (or 1 full-height) slots.
And the "unexpandability" of the LX is precisely why it is an LX and not
the costlier RX.
That's marketing.
