Harlan,

From the help screen.........

Interval File Open Rate

Interval File Open Rate is the rate per second of the number of
files opened during the interval. Opening MPE files is a CPU
intensive operation that may be, in certain circumstances, a sign
of a possible CPU bottleneck. The File Open Rate can be used to
judge the workload characterization on the system with regards to
the opening and closing of files. A high rate of file opens may
indicate poor application design. A sustained File Open Rate of
greater than 35 per second may indicate a possible CPU bottleneck.

Are you sure you program only opens the file once? I have seen times when a program would open
the file read a record and close the file.

One trick might be to turn on system file logging (Logging events 105 and 160), using SYSLOG from
the illustrious Allegro

http://www.allegro.com/software/hp3000/stuff/SYSLOG.std

Then use FILERPT from our friends at ALLEGRO,

http://www.allegro.com/software/hp3000/stuff/FILERPT.std

to see what files are being opened. Filerpt allows sorting on the number of opens.
