Another option, which is not truly "testing" the JCL, is the editor
UltraEdit. This is a PC based app, but can open and save files (via ftp)
on 3000. UltraEdit has a View As menu option (which can key off of file
extensions like .xml, etc, or be manually set to a specific type) and
will highlight / color code syntax. There is a myriad of dowloadable
formats available on the internet for various programming languages,
cron scrips, uxix shell scrips, html, and more. Plus you can define your
own... I've done some basic definitions for MPE job syntax, but there is
a lot more that can be done.

I don't work there, just a satisfied customer...

For Streamx, you need to set a file equate for STRMSAVE and run streamx
with octal parm-bit "%40" set -- usually you will have the STRMFILE
(input file) set as well, so the octal parm becomes %41

If you set STRMSAVE to $STDLIST, it dumps to your terminal...

as stated below, this doesn't (really) check the syntax (other than
perhaps the Streamx specific items) - the intent is to evaluate the
stream file without spooling it to the job queue [you could/would use
this in conjunction with a third-party scheduler, i.e., use streamx to
generate the job with all the parms substituted, but submit to MPE
through product-x]

Vesoft StreamX will allow you to check for variable substitution and I
think password prompting. I'd have to find an old manual, but that
would be mute if you don't have their product.

Run it thru Spell Check... Just kidding..

If you have OCS Scheduler, then you can type in STRMTEST
<jobname.group.account> and it will do a quick validation, but I don't
think it would find any syntax issues or anything minor..

Hope this helps
Thanks

Not that I've ever encountered as an MPE feature. A feature such as that
may be available from some of the job scheduling packages for the 3K;
perhaps someone else might be able to address that.

hi,

I used to work on an IBM and there was a keyword we used to put at the
top of the jcl in order to test it without actually running it. It was
used to check for syntax. Is there an equivalent on the HP?

Thank you.

M.
