Hi Bob,
I don't understand how mod_auth_ldap.so is ending up with stuff from -lsocket
since you are clearly not specifying -lsocket on the ld command invoked by apxs.
I recommend purging mod_auth_ldap.so and then rebuilding it. Maybe you have
residue from previous attempts. Or maybe Mark Klein has modified the latest
gcc ld in ways that I am not yet aware of.
