It sounds like you have a psuedo lp printer. Here at Cardinal we set these
up as follows:

In the Sysstart file

spooler 6;stop;openq
spooler ###;start

Where ### is you need to designate a DTC port, where the 'actual ' LP will
exist.
In NMMGR you will add a profile for the choosen ldev ### assigning a
generic Class name in the first postion, then assign the class
name of LP in the second postion. Also in NMMGR you will need to configure
the DTC port as the printer (first class name) you choose.

As long as the Ldev 6 is stopped and the Queue is open "SPOOLED"  and the
actual lp is Started "SPOOLED OUT"
you will be able to print to device LP.

So when you do a SHOWDEV LP you  should see:

LDEV     AVAIL OWNERSHIP      VOLID           DEN       ASSOC     IATION

6                 SPOOLED
###            SPOOLED   SPOOLED OUT
