Don't read too much into this. Even Intel is downplaying the significance
of the first generation of IA-64 chips. If history is any guide, the
first generation of a new architecture runs behind the last generation of
the old architecture. That was certainly the case with the stack-to-RISC
MPE transition, as well as with Apple's 68K (CISC)-to-PowerPC (RISC)
transition. During HP's transition, classic machines shared the price
list with PA-RISC machines for at least three years.
