Many thanks for all those who supplied the answer about ftp'ing a funny
filename to a mickysoft file name. FTP get takes an optional second
parameter, localfilename.
 
However, as a very defensive (<gr>) justification for my original post, the
on-line help for FTP give the following:
 
ftp> help get
get             receive file
ftp>
 
Ah well, rtfm with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight -
 
From the Winhelp for MS TCP-32:
