Greetings Gang!

Recently ther have been questions about the BREAK KAY and dome of the 33.6
modems. Much to my chagrin, US Robotics Sportster Modems when they created
their 33.6 replacement Chip...decided to discontinue supporting the BREAK
KEY because their research has shown that "IT ISN'T USED MUCH IN THE
INDUSTRY." I find this hard to swallow....We ("The guys in the labs at
QSS") are thinking of 'downgrading' some of our previously upgraded modems
back to 28.8. We still have the chips we changed-out. The 28.8's still
support the BREAK KEY where the 33.6's do not. But anyway, I have found
one vendor (so far..and I am still waiting for a response from a couple
others) which still support the BREAK KEY. So far, MUTITECH SYSTEMS
(http://www.multitech.com) has told m,e that IN ERROR CORRECTION MODE the
modems handle the break key just fine. In non-correcting mode, the
RECEIVING modem 'shortens up' the length of the signal generated by the
break key and may be a problem. Since most people choose to use error
correction these days, that little aside should not be a problem.

I just thought some of this info might be of interest... Please note I
recieve the 3000-L has a digest each morning. If you have any questions
for me, please send to the list (for continuity) and then send to me
directly if you want a response before monday morning.
