We're rapidly approaching the 160 user license on our 968 and I'm looking
for ways to postpone the $60,000 license upgrade.

Many of our users log in simply to run a Transact/VPlus application that
does wildcard lookups against an Image table that is indexed with Omnidex.
Most of these users are coming in from HP-UX workstations via NS and vt3k.

I'm thinking of building a browser based alternative to this Transact
program. In this scenario, I would have a web server, probably IIS, that
provides the ODBC attachment to the indexed Image dataset. I've done
something similar with Visual Interdev and MS Access. If I can pull this
off, I should be able to reduce my user count on the 3000 substantially.

Has anyone attempted to do wildcard searches against Omnidex indexed
datasets via DataExpress/ODBCLink? I placed a call with their technical
support a little while ago but haven't heard back. I've also looked at the
Omnidex client which appears very capable to do what I want but it is a bit
pricey. Any suggestions or alternate ideas would be most appreciated.
