I have followed this thread with interest, since we have had
this error occur at times with a CM process that monitors a message
file,
sending it's contents down a specified port on a DTC (not a modem port
-
a serial connection from the dtc to a PC).

Searching the HP300L archives, I find a thread from july 95 ("Init
string to modem port").
At one point Jeff Kell has this happening on a direct connect
non-modem port, but the thread
trails off there.

Jeff, if I might ask, do you remember the resolution to your problem?
 I would be anxious to here
if it might apply in our case.
