N series 1x 220Mhz, 1GB , 7.5, tons of free space, local network printers,
remote tcp/ip printers on private ip network.

Friday afternoon, call re a remote printer not printing. Files queued up,
top one in PRINT state.

Stopspool 425, device goes to

425     UNAVAIL       SPOOLER OUT

start gives

:startspool 425

Device is already spooled out. (CIERR 3218)

Abortio gives , after about 20 tries..

HLIO error cant remember the rest, but now it hangs.

Soon after this we have a power fail, UPS fails, power comes back up,
reboot, back on line, restart network, and this printer is in EXACTLY the
same state as before..same spool file in print state, wont respond to
stopspool or startspool...

Monday, 2 more printers, one local subnet, one remote, start doing same
thing.

Local device I deleted from sysgen->io, hold, keep, save, doionow, and
spooler still knows about it!!!!

I have reconfigured the local device as another on same IP

And sent print out to it, and ..looks like this:

SPOOLID JOBNUM FILEDES PRI COPIES DEV STATE RSPFN OWNER

#O301294   S152     LP         8      1 696      DELPND       MANAGER.SYS

#O301372   S176     LP         8      1 696      READY        MANAGER.SYS

INPUT SPOOL FILES OUTPUT SPOOL FILES

ACTIVE   = 0;                CREATE   = 0;              READY    = 1;

OPEN     = 0;                DEFER    = 0;              SELECTED = 1;

READY    = 0;                DELPND   = 1;              SPSAVE   = 0;

                             PRINT    = 0;              XFER     = 0;

                             PROBLM   = 0;

TOTAL IN FILES   = 0;        TOTAL OUT FILES   = 2;

      IN SECTORS = 0;              OUT SECTORS = 32;

OUTFENCE = 7

:showdev 696

 LDEV AVAIL OWNERSHIP VOLID DEN ASSOCIATION

  696     SPOOLED       SPOOLER OUT

Cant start, cant stop (device wont go to avail state), wont print, but HP
can ping it?

Is there a way to stop spooler globally in any way please? Can it be stopped
at nscontrol or netcontrol? Or something in nettool?

IF a reboot wont clear this problem, what will?

Mystified big time here..

Thanks

john
