Transaction Manager (aka XM) uses logfiles for system and user
transactions. These files are not visible in the directory (they
use predefined entries in the file label tables), and always live
on the master volume of a given volumeset.
One cannot move them to another disk in the same volumeset, but
you are right to assume that it would help performance to have
the master volume be the fastest disk in your volumeset (if you
have a mix of differently performing disks).
If you are using Mirrored Disk/iX it also helps to make sure
that the master (and its mirror) are on the highest SCSI
priority path of your bus(-ses). This reduces repair times.

Goetz.
