As with most ideas, the implementation can be done in such a way
that it subverts the true intent/value of the concept and produce
results that are harmful to the employee and then subsequently to
the employer. Recent articles in BusinessWeek illustrate some examples
of companies that hid age-based discrimination behind the veil of
this style system.

But then there are problems with other type systems as well. Spend any
time in the government/public sector and you will find interesting issues
on the other extreme.
