Well, there are instructions IN THE MANUAL to purge HPINSTFL.INSTALL.SYS...
and the wrong file was purged - HPINSTAL.INSTALL.SYS was purged.  It was
restored from the backup CSLT (with SYS and TELESUP on it), and all is well
with the world.
