Thanks to all who responded. After absorbing all your comments, I've
concluded that the drives would work as long as I kept to the 'one
drive at a time' limitation. However, since MPE doesn't have a mechanism
to configure and enforce this limitation, HP couldn't conscientiously
support this configuration and still maintain the level of reliability
that we all expect.
It looks like Denys Beauchemin's suggestion of a small autoloader will
provide a better solution for mounting weekend backup tapes and keep my
system within HP's supported configuration.
