Hi Greg,

I am not a performance specialist so I won't try to explain what might be occuring.

The patch that might help address what you are seeing is MPELXG6 (C) which is now
superseded. So the patch to order would be MPELXM5 (C). Neither of these made it
into Powerpatch 2 (I tried!).

If HPSWINFO does not show either of these you should consider installing MPELXM5.
If either of these patches are installed then something else is occuring that would warrant
closer inspection.

Best Regards,

Subject: [HP3000-L] XM Checkpoint freezing other users.

> Hi all.
>
> We have a problem on our 969 where a system process on pin 11 named xm_static_checkpoint_serv is regularly taking over the machine
and locking out all other activity for around 20 seconds. Note that the end of the name was truncated so I'm not sure of the full
name. From what I've ascertained from the list archives and discussions with HP in Australia, this is a process of the Transaction
Manager posting stuff to disk.
>
> We have changed the priority of the process in VOLUTIL using ALTERCHKPTPRI from the default of 152 to 200 and then to 204, as
recommended by HP, but to no avail - the system still freezes.
>
> I have looked through the archives for any postings indicating how people have managed to overcome/avoid this problem, but have
not found anything - the postings were mainly people asking "what is it" and replies to that.
>
> There was no noticeable pause before a couple of weeks ago when we upgraded from MPE/iX 6.0 to 6.5, added an extra DDS drive, and
added 2 more 18gb discs (we previously had a disc i/o bottleneck). Could it have been the upgrade to 6.5? Or could it have been that
adding the discs has allowed the XM to write to disc faster?
>
> So I ask the questions:
> - how do we overcome this problem?
> - do I have to reboot every time we change the priority?
>
> We are on 6.5 express 2, with the following patches according to HPSWINFO:
> NSTFDX5A General Fixes for NS TRANSPORT on MPE/iX 6.5 (A2) Patch
> FTPFDU8A GENERAL FIXES FOR FTP FOR 6.5 RELEASE (B Patch).
> INTFDX3A General Fixes for Intersrv Products on MPE/iX 6.5 (B)
> NSTGD16A General Fixes for NS TRANSPORT on MPE/iX 6.5 (A5) Patch

> TIA.
