1a) A hub is simply a repeater, so the total bandwidth is shared among
all active ports; a.k.a.
1b) All traffic on the network appears at each machine, no matter
which machine it should reach; a.k.a.
1c) Heavy traffic will cause collisions at all nodes
2) Since switches are point-to-point with each attached machine, they
can operate in full-duplex mode, i.e. simultaneous full-speed send and
receive; this can effectively double the wire bandwidth.
