Ladies and germs... I have console!
Finally, after storing this 9000/800/G50 for over 5 years, I finally get to
"use" it. Well, almost...
Got the 1703-60003 card today. Pulled out the 1703-60022 card and swapped in
the 60003 card. Cut the cord from a ps/2 keyboard and wired up a
6pin-din-to-db25 cable (got it right on the first try) and connected the cable
between the server and the "928" monitor, crossed my fingers, and turned
everything on, and VOILA!
Thats the good news
The bad news is I got bombarded with a LOT of "access fault" error messages, but
they go away and a "normal" looking console output begins... asking if I want
to boot, interact with IPL, etc. I am pretty sure the scsi drives are "clean"
so there's not much more I can do now (apparently this box won't run linux and
as big of a Linux fan that I am, I would not want to run Linux on this box) so
I'll push this server back into a corner and wait 100 years for HP to relinquish
control of mpe and ss_config ;-)
I'll post pictures if anyone is interested, otherwise I guess I'll move on to my
next project ;)
