And there's always the option to convert with frombyte and tobyte, although
this can 'bite back' if someone edits one file and does not convert it to
the other format. We added the following to our smb.conf:

GStigers 990225 maintains this file. To do so, I first did:
frombyte.hpbin.sys './lib/smb.conf SAMBACNF'
to create this file. This is the file that I edit. Then I:
tobyte.hpbin.sys '-at SAMBACNF ./lib/smb.conf'
to copy it back to the bytestream file that SAMBA/iX wants.
You only have to do edit this and use tobyte to keep this up.
NOTE: should you use vi or other means to edit smb.conf,
please convert it to ASCII with frombyte as given above.
