Not necessarily...

If one wants to "control" MSWord, it can be done using several techniques.
For example, one can use data from an Image database, and send it down to MS
Word via DDE or OLE using Reflection and VBA in a mail-merge application.

This would be good if one needs online letter-writing, for example.

This is just one example.  Samba would be good if one uses SMBCLIENT to
write a data file on a share on another Windows machine.
