You can use the
SET ECHO=OFF to turn echo off for the password
SET ECHO=ON to turn echo back on.

There is also an escape code sequence that does the same thing but I don't
remember it.

Subject: [HP3000-L] Escape Sequences to turn echo off/on

Hello,
I am writing a little command to prompt users for a password. I want to turn
echo off right after my prompt literal for the password and turn it back on
after the password is entered. I don't remember the escape sequences to
accomplish this. I would appreciate it, if somebody from the list could help
me out with this.
Thanks.

Joe.
