If you are only passing information back and forth for some of those
"iconic" programs. Move the app from a run on a logged on user to a socket
program listening for a connection. The front end could look very similar to
the current and said user would not know the difference. And as each app was
moved over and the icon exe changed another logon was saved.

P.S. a listening app many times is running in a job which does not log off
and any one connecting to it does not count as a separate connection.
