I too received this sort of letter years ago and was shocked that someone
had recognized my accomplishments. Needless to say my self-esteem was
devastated when it came to a purchase. Although I think I was listed in the
small print along with the others that did not pay.

I was wondering if anyone has heard of a who's who listing of IT
Professionals?

The reason for this question is this; A couple of weeks ago, I got a
letter asking for some information
about myself for possible including me in a Who's Who listing of IT people
(I don't remember the
exact wording). I filled out the form, and mailed it in. Then I get a
phone call that someone wants to
setup an appointment for a telephone interview. Then another phone call
last night confirming the
time (7/7 at 7:30 am). Everything seems ok so far. So this morning, I get
this telephone interview.
They ask me some questions about my company (PC Enterprises Inc) and I
didn't feel I had any
really great answers - what can I say about a company that consists of
myself and one other
employee ; total of 3 contracts? Also when asked about what I thought was
my greatest accomplishment
was, I didn't have anything come to mind. But anyway, I qualified to be in
this book. Going to get
a book and a quarterly newsletter.

But now we get down to the brass tacks. Next was the pitch, did I want the
regular book or the leather
bound edition? One was $329, the other 429 or something like that. And
they wanted a credit card
number to purchase this. Well I don't carry a credit card with me at work,
actually my billfold was out
in my car. So, I said I couldn't at this time, could they send me a bill.
Nope, had to be today, had to be
right now, and why wouldn't a computer professional carry a credit card?
And why couldn't an IT
professional make a decision right now. She said she could hold, while I
went and got my credit card
which I declined to do.

Well all this to me sounds like a scam. Why would a reputable firm need
immediate payment?
I didnt' ask if they were located in SE PA, but what's the deal here?
Anybody else ever heard of this thing?
