I believe that the issue is with the printer drivers and protocol. The HP-IB
printers used a protocol called CIPER which provided many features such as
those that you describe. As HP is no longer planning to support HP-IB (not
supported in 9x9 and will not be included in MPE/iX 6.5), serial connections
for these "older" printers are the way to maintain their use.

Regards,

Subject: HPIB to Serial Printer

A while ago, I had to convert my HPIB 2566A to a serial connection. It
seems
to me that I lost a lot of features. We've always had headers off, but
after
the conversion, the miserable line up lines print again. And, we seem to
have lost page level recovery, and the 3000 no longer knows exactly what the
printer is doing. Anyway, we've lived with it so far, but I'm getting tired
of manually having to line up odd sized forms after a paper jam.

Are there any particular settings I should be using.
It's defined as type 22, 19200 bps, 132 rec width, modem type 0, modem
behavior 0, no parity, 1 stop bit, no hardware handshake, y initially
spooled,
y flow control, n NLIO device, and assigned to device class LP.

If I'm missing something obvious, please let me know. Thanks.
