If it's simply a migration from one hardware platform to the other (without
an O/S upgrade), the most difficult part is modifying the I/O configuration
to conform to the completely different I/O paths and corresponding drivers
associated with the newer 9x7 hardware platform.

Other than that, it's very similar to standard reloads/installs. (You have
to be careful about files such as NMCONFIG.PUB.SYS, which include hardware
paths within - but which are easy to modify).

How much money do you want to spend? A 947 CPU is rated about 55% faster
than a 950. Bear in mind though, that many third-party vendors charge
different upgrade fees according to different hardware models and that their
tiers don't necessarily correspond to HP's.

From your post, it sounds like you are buying from somebody other than HP.
If so, there are licensing issues which need to be ironed out and I won't
get into the details here. I'm sure your 3rd-party vendor will know about
these issues and advise you accordingly. If you still have questions, bring
them up here and I'm sure you'll get plenty of advise.
