I just remembered that the FLABELINFO intrinsic does allow the caller to
specify whether or not to follow symbolic links.  The "mode" parameter
supports this: bits 11:1    0 means traverse thru symbolic links, 1 means
do not follow symbolics.  This applies only to the last component of an
HFS pathname.  It appears that following symlinks is the default.
