Hello,

I read the chat log on what could be done (besides the T-shirts) to get HP
to promote the e3000. The chat noted that IBM's AS400 system had received
considerable space in INFOWORLD. The chatters were wondering why the e3000
hadn't garnered the same attention. The chatters were also wondering how
best to get the word to Carly, et al, that the MPE community wishes HP
showed a little more enthusiasm for its own homegrown product. How about
killing two birds with one stone?

Why doesn't the 3000-L community place an ad in INFOWORLD the week of HP
World? A quarter-page ad would suffice. The text could be something like:

"Dear Carly,

Thanks for keeping HP's best kept secret.

Sincerely,

the Members of 3000-L" (or comp.sys.hp.mpe, or both, or however you want to
sign it)

This tactic:

a) gets the word out about the e3000 to non-HP customers
b) might generate some press about the need for the ad (and what better
time to generate press than HP World?)
c) pokes a little fun at HP's lack of promotion.

This idea is not original, BTW; it has been used several times by fans of
tv shows to show their support of a program they believe isn't getting its
due from the network. But I've never seen or heard of the idea being used
by "fans" of an operating system!

I have no idea how much an ad would cost, but if resources were pooled and
the ad kept to minimum size, it could be doable.

NOTE: The above consists of my personal opinion only and does NOT reflect
that of my husband, Mark Bixby, nor his employer, HP.
