Depending on which ODBC driver you are using you might be able to build com
objects which can be called from programs you build in Visual Studio (it also
runs as a component in IIS ... the COM objects would do calls to the 3000 and
run code in an XL [or RL] ... you could try this if you are using UDALink from
MBFoster ... see

If we can be more help feel free to contact me ... Birket

PS the COMBuilder also works for HP-UX boxes with code in a proc lib
PPS We also have JDBC interfaces to your favorite databases
PPPS we recently added HP-Eloquence on HPUX to the data sources available

Subject: Transferring data from HP3000 to NT server
From: "Ha T. Nguyen" <[log in to unmask]>

I am attempting to transfer data from a message file on the HP3000 to an
application on an NT server. I am considering using an ODBC as the
connection between the HP3000 and the NT server since the data transfer
needs to be realtime instead of batch. I would like to read each record
non-destructively, then destructively after it has been successfully
transferred to the NT server. I am not certain if this will require 2 ODBC
connections to the message file (1 for non-destructive read and 1 for
destructive read) or if it is even possible to have 2 readers accessing a
message file. Does anyone have any ideas/comments pertaining to this
issue? Thanks for any feedback!
